Nachiketa
Sharma, the young and gifted classical singer and disciple of Padmabhusan
Pandit Basavraj Rajguru, shall perform in the evening. Nachiketa's gurus
include Shri B. N. Simha and Shri B. Hanumantachar. Nachiketa hails
from the Dharwad district of Karnataka which produced such talents as
Bhimsen Joshi, Gangubai Hangal, Mallikarjun Mansur, Kumar Gandharva
and Basavraj Rajguru.
Nachiketa has extensively performed in cities across India and the
United States. He is a resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and a
senior teacher at the Ali Akbar College of Music. He is also the lead
singer of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan's orchestra.
Ravi Gutala in Tabla
Ravi Gutala has trained in Hyderabad and under Pandit Swapan Chowdhuri
at the Ali Akbar Khan College of Music in San Raphael.
He has accompanied many eminent visiting artists such as Pandit Jasraj,
Smt. Lakshmi Shankar, Dr. L.Subramaniam, Ustad Shujaat Khan, Ms Shweta
Jhaveri etc.. Ravi has also given concerts in various cities of the
US. He has several recordings to his credit and also teaches tabla in
the Bay Area.
Gopal Marathe in Harmonium
Gopal Marathe is an accomplished musician - a composer, singer,
harmonium player and music teacher - living in Southern California since
1980. By profession he is a Microbiologist with a Ph. D. in microbiology.
Originally from Karnatak, he was an All India Radio artist in Bangalore
and Dharwar stations in Hindustani Sugam Sangeet.
As a harmonium player, Gopal has accompanied many world class Hindustani
classical singers such as Pandit Jasraj , Girija Devi, Rajan and Sajan
Mishra, Prabha Atre, Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Jitendra Abhisheki, Laxmi
Shankar to name a few.
