Bengalees have always been at the forefront of protests. Whether the protest
was against the British rulers, the oppressive "zamindaars"
or global warfare, the emotions always ran high among the Bengalee youth.
This program would give you glimpses of the those emotional times.
Dance by Ambalika Singh
Ambalika Singh has been dancing Bharat Natyam since she was 4 years old.
She is disciple of Smt Praveena Kutty,daughter-in -law of Smt Thankumani
Kutty and Guru Govind Kutty of Kala Mandalam. Ambalika's style is Kalashetra.
Ambalika is a regular performer and a professional dance teacher in Kolkata.
She regularly performs at Rabindra Sadan and Kala Mandir in Kolkata and
is a regular artist for Geet Govindh festival. She has also performed
in the Dance Festival of India at Kala Mandir.
Ambalika loves to teach. She has about 50 students in her dance school
in South Kolkata, Nritya Kala. She focuses not only on the art of dancing
but also on the theories and history of Bharat Natyam.
In spite of being a lifelong student of Bharat Natyam, Ambalika is deeply
interested in other dance forms and loves to choreograph with fusion music.

Sarod by Sumita Kundu
Sumita, a disciple of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, has been playing Sarod since
she was very young. She learned Sarod from Pt Shyam Gangopadhyay, a disciple
of Ustad Alauddin Khan who was the Guru of Pt. Ravisankar, Ustad Ali Akbar
Khan and Pt. Nilhil Banerjee.
Sumita is closely associated with Ali Akbar College of Music in Northern
California. She is a regular performer in classical concerts in Southern
and Northern California.
Sumita would be accompanied in Tabla by Jyoti Prakash. Jyoti is a disciple
of Pt Abhijit Banerjee. Jyoti has extensively performed with renowned
classical artists in India and USA, including famous vocalist Pt Jasraj,
renowned Katththak dancer Smt.Sova Kosar, and Flute Maestro Keshav Ghinde.
Jyoti currently is teaching in the prestigious school DHWANI ACADEMY
OF PERCUSSION MUSIC, in San Diego, Irvine and LA in the US, founded by
Pandit Abhijit Banerjee
